Polar Bears live in the Arctic Circle of the Northern Hemisphere. They live in cold weather where there is plenty of ice, snow, and water. The polar bear is mostly carnivorous and they eat many things like seals and arctic foxes. They also eat berries if they can find them. There are between 22,000 and 40,000 polar bears on the Earth and over half of them live in northern Canada.
Polar Bears are endangered mostly due to the warming of the Earth. The warming causes their homes on the ice and snow to melt and they are losing food because the lack of land around them is killing the prey.
Many people are poaching, illegally hunting animals that are not supposed to be hunted, the polar bear for their fur.

Rob, what would you suggest we do to revive the polar bear population?
ReplyDeleteRob, I think you need to go into greater depth about what is causing the polar ice caps to melt that diminishes the habitats of the polar bear, and what do you propose would be a solution to the drastic climate changes of the warming of the Earth?
ReplyDeleteSince the polar bears are losing land due to caps melting from global warming, which seems to be a continuing and escalating problem, can they adapt to live in the water long periods of time? Do they already?
ReplyDeleteI do not see a good solution to this problem as there is no way to slow climate change to a point where it will affect the bears greatly. And the only solution I have to the hunting problem is make it a very harshly punished crime, because there is no efficient way to guard the animals literally.
ReplyDeleteTo Adeline, I suggest that we stop the hunting of the polar bear by putting them under warden protection. If someone tries to hunt them, they will be arrested by the warden. I also suggest that we cut back on our carbon export so the warming of the planet isn't so serious so they can learn to adapt.
ReplyDeleteTo Robbie, I don't care what you think. And I don't care if you think its to short, I'm informing people and I'm giving them reason over the comments. There isn't a good solution to this problem, like Asa said, there is no way to slow down climate change.
ReplyDeleteTo Asa, I agree with you that there is no way we can really stop the climate change or "Global Warming." For the hunting issue I say that if they at least try to stop the hunters from killing polar bears, I believe that they would save a few so they can procreate and make more polar bears.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rob there isn't a thing we can do about the polar bears. Over time they will disappear and we are going to have to deal with that when that time comes
ReplyDeleteRob, do you think that maybe over time the polar bear will adapt and be able to live in cold and warm areas as well?
ReplyDeleteCanada is the world's leading exporter of polar bear pelts. Is it legal to hunt polar bears there? Or is there a black market? What are these furs used for?
ReplyDeleteTo Brian, I believe they will. Animals learn how to adapt to their surroundings over time, much like humans. But if the hunting of these animals do not stop, they wont have enough time to adapt because they will all be extinct.
ReplyDeleteYes in Canada you can hunt them and it cost them almost 1000 to hunt. They are doing that to create jobs and to make income.
ReplyDeleteRob I agree with most that there's not much we can do about the climate change to help them. All we can do is crack down on the illegal hunting of the polar bears. The polar bear still has a decent number population wise and could eventually adapt to the change.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there somewhere else we could put the polar bears where it's nice and cold? Like Antarctica or something? Are polar bears on the endangered species list? And is anything being done to protect them?
ReplyDeleteMaya, it is illegal to hunt polar bears anywhere because they are on the endangered special list. A polar bear is being illegally hunted for there fur and hides. There priceless hides are mostly made into clothing, rugs, and blankets. People also use the hair of polar bear for tying flies for fly fishing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Rob and and most of you others on the this subject we can not stop global warming altogether but there are things we can do to to slow it down enough to give time to the polar bears so they can adapt to there changing environment. Jeremy people are saying you can't hunt polar bears at all because they are endangered, I believe their right.
ReplyDeleteJeremy, killing the polar bears will not help us with global warming, i think we should use them as and example to say, look if we keep treating our planet like this were going to wipe them out and eventually were going to get whipped out. I'm not saying global warming is 100% our faults I'm saying were have a lot to do with it
ReplyDeleteJeremy i'm pretty sure you can not hunt polar bears not even in Canada. They are on the endangered list and if you shoot something on that list then you get fined a lot of money and a year or two in prison. I agree with you with Rob another reason other then pouching that the polar bear is endangered in because of global warming. The more the ice burgs melt the more the polar bears are going to have to search for food because the way the polar bears get around for food mainly is on ice caps.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say species instead of special in the above post.
